Basic martial arts was carried forward by the great ancient Indian monk, Bodhi Dharmar in the 5th or 6th century. It slowly spread to various parts of the World. And with the lapse of time, it diverged from it's original form and began to be called by various names including Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, Kendo, Kung-Fu and so on. And one such art is, Karate. However even the Karate have taken various branches and various style. And these styles have undergone much more variegation.

All these original style are still being practiced at Okinawa, Japan. One of the oldest of it is Shorin-Ryu. It is the major style of Okinawa Martial Arts. It was named by Chishin Chibana in 1933, but the system itself in much older. With the words 'shorin' meaning forest/island and 'ryu' meaning school, it refers to it's place of origin. It is believed that Shorin-Ryu style of Karate was practised by the ancients in a small island of pine forest.

Shorin-Ryu style of practice is generally characterized by the natural breathing, style and circular movement. Here the stances aren't deep, as they cause difficulty in movement. There is a correct motion, moving quickly to evade punches with fluid movement and make powerful blocks.

Our AyanDojo practices the same style, in the traditional way. Our major aim is to create a strong unshakable spirit, and self confidence. Our secondary aim includes safety and self defense. After a brief time of practice, we also provide Kobudo training, which is the art of handling weapons.
